Sann Thach, a 43-year-old Cambodian refugee who has lived legally in the U.S. for over 30 years, was detained by ICE during a routine check-in and hasn’t been seen by his family in over a month, Fox News reports. Thach, a green card holder with a work permit and Virginia driver’s license, works as a cement truck driver and has a wife and two daughters. His detention stems from a firearm possession conviction at age 18.
His wife, Sonya Tan, says many Cambodians face similar situations and hopes sharing their story raises awareness. The family has hired an immigration attorney, contacted their congressperson, and submitted an expedited request for a stay of removal, hoping to prevent his deportation.
