Keo Chhea, Cambodia’s ambassador to the United Nations in New York, has briefed UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Thailand’s recent violations of the ceasefire agreement, according to Chum Sounry, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
At the August 29 daily press briefing, Sounry said Chhea raised concerns over the Thai military’s use of razor wire barricades, which have blocked Cambodian villagers from reaching their homes. He also reaffirmed to Guterres that Cambodia has not laid new landmines, rejecting Thailand’s allegations.
During the meeting, the Cambodian ambassador presented a visual report documenting Thai soldiers placing razor wire inside Cambodian villages, along with materials from CMAC illustrating the difference between newly planted and old landmines.
