Siem Reap Provincial Authorities Urge Strengthening of Security and Order for the Khlaing Ek and Khlaing Serei Festival

Authorities in Siem Reap have called on security forces and relevant agencies to strengthen safety, public order, sanitation and price controls during the upcoming 2nd “Khlaing Ek” and “Khlaing Serei” Kite Festival at the former Siem Reap International Airport.

At a planning meeting on February 11, Deputy Governor Ly Sary said the event is not only for entertainment but also aims to encourage young people to appreciate and preserve Cambodia’s traditional kite-making art. He urged students and youth to attend in large numbers to help safeguard the cultural heritage.

Organizers said the festival will also feature products from the “One Village, One Product” movement and the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia to support local businesses. Officials stressed the need for security inspections to prevent weapons or explosives, while parking fees must be clearly displayed to avoid overcharging. Cleanliness and the overall appearance of the venue will also be closely monitored.

According to the Provincial Department of Culture and Fine Arts, 85 kites have been registered so far, including 56 musical “Khlaing Ek” kites and 29 free-style entries. The festival is expected to attract both domestic and international visitors while boosting the local economy.
