Restoration and reassembly of one of the largest Khmer bronze statues—a nearly five-meter-long 11th-century depiction of Vishnu (Preah Noreay)—have been completed in France. Discovered in 1936 at the Western Mebon Temple in Siem Reap and later stored at the National Museum of Cambodia, the statue was sent to France in May last year in 39 fragments.
After expert restoration in Nantes, it has been moved to the Guimet National Museum in Paris, where it will be displayed from April 30 to the end of September. An opening ceremony is set for April 28, with officials from Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture attending. The project highlights international collaboration in preserving Khmer heritage.
