Indians Outraged by Thai Hindu Statue Demolition

A video showing Thai military forces using heavy machinery to demolish a Hindu deity’s statue in Preah Vihear province on December 22 has sparked outrage, particularly in India. The statue, reportedly built more than a decade ago in the An Ses area, was torn down amid claims of a border dispute, drawing sharp criticism from Hindu communities.  

Former Indian MP Vijayasai Reddy condemned the act in a December 23 post, calling it an attack on faith and heritage. He argued that such destruction reflects intolerance, noting historical persecution of Hindu temples in the region. Reddy stressed that no religion can claim peace while destroying another’s sacred symbols.
