Cambodia and Azerbaijan have taken a major step to boost tourism ties. On July 22, the Ministry of Tourism signed an MoU with a visiting Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov. During the 4th Cambodia-Azerbaijan Political Consultative Meeting in Phnom Penh, Mammadov expressed admiration for Angkor Wat, calling it a world-renowned attraction, and stressed the importance of raising awareness about Cambodia among Azerbaijani travelers.
He said both nations could benefit by learning from each other’s tourism strategies, noting Azerbaijan’s efforts to diversify its economy beyond energy by investing in tourism. Mammadov emphasized the importance of promoting multi-country tour packages to overcome the long travel distance.
The MoU enables direct cooperation between Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism and Azerbaijan’s state tourism agency. With both countries possessing UNESCO-listed heritage sites, Mammadov believes that shared promotion could unlock untapped potential and attract more global visitors.
