ការខិតខំប្រឹងប្រែងឥតឈប់ឈររបស់អាស៊ានក្នុងការស្វែងរកការឯកភាពគ្នាបានធ្វើឱ្យប៉ះពាល់ដល់ភាពជឿជាក់របស់ខ្លួនក្នុងនាមជាអង្គការក្នុងតំបន់។ តាមរយៈការខិតខំសម្របសម្រួលគ្រប់ភាគីទាំងអស់ វាគ្រាន់តែបំពេញកាតព្វកិច្ចមិនច្បាស់លាស់ចំពោះច្បាប់ និងសណ្តាប់ធ្នាប់អន្តរជាតិ ដោយរីកចម្រើនតិចតួចប៉ុណ្ណោះ ខណៈពេលដែលជៀសវាងការប្រឈមមុខដាក់គ្នា។ ភាពមិនច្បាស់លាស់នេះធ្វើឱ្យបាត់បង់ទំនុកចិត្ត និងរារាំងអាស៊ានពីការទទួលស្គាល់ថាជាកម្លាំងសម្រេចចិត្តក្នុងកិច្ចការសកល។

ផលវិបាកនៃភាពខ្មាសអៀនបែបនេះគឺធ្ងន់ធ្ងរណាស់។ វាមានហានិភ័យនៃការអូសបន្លាយជម្លោះ និងអស្ថិរភាព ឬអាក្រក់ជាងនេះទៅទៀត គឺអនុញ្ញាតឱ្យសន្តិភាពត្រូវបានកំណត់ដោយកម្លាំងយោធា ដែលកម្លាំងក្លាយជាអាជ្ញាកណ្តាលចុងក្រោយនៃយុត្តិធម៌។ លុះត្រាតែអាស៊ានបង្ហាញពីការតាំងចិត្តកាន់តែខ្លាំង និងភាពជាអ្នកដឹកនាំដែលមានគោលការណ៍ វានឹងនៅតែជាប់គាំងរវាងសង្គ្រាម និងសន្តិភាព ដោយមិនអាចធានាបាននូវស្ថិរភាពយូរអង្វែងសម្រាប់តំបន់នោះទេ។

ASEAN: Between War and Peace

ASEAN’s persistent pursuit of consensus has undermined its credibility as a regional organization. By striving to accommodate all sides, it delivers only tepid commitments to international law and order, advancing little while avoiding confrontation. This indecision erodes trust and prevents ASEAN from being recognized as a decisive force in global affairs.  

The consequences of such timidity are stark. It risks prolonging conflict and instability, or worse, allowing peace to be dictated by military might, where force becomes the ultimate arbiter of justice. Unless ASEAN demonstrates stronger resolve and principled leadership, it will remain caught between war and peace, unable to secure lasting stability for the region.
