French Parliamentarian Commits to Boost Cambodia–France Economic Cooperation
Phnom Penh, February 24, 2026 – A senior French lawmaker has pledged to strengthen economic and investment ties with Cambodia, as bilateral trade reached nearly $570 million in 2025.
The commitment came during a meeting between Suon Sophal, Deputy Secretary-General of the Cambodian Investment Board at the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and Thomas Lam, Member of Parliament and President of the Cambodia–France Parliamentary Friendship Group, at the CDC headquarters.
Sophal highlighted Cambodia’s efforts to improve its investment climate through attractive incentives, infrastructure development, workforce training aligned with market needs, and public-private dialogue mechanisms with the EU. He urged the France–Cambodia Friendship Group to continue initiatives fostering business-to-business relations, particularly leveraging the upcoming 20th Francophonie Summit, which Cambodia will host, to organize an Investment and Business Forum.
Lam pledged to promote French investment in Cambodia across sectors including agro-industry, automotive, electronics, healthcare, logistics, accounting, finance, and tourism. He also encouraged French companies to participate in the Investment and Business Forum alongside the Francophonie Summit.
According to the General Department of Customs and Excise, Cambodia–France trade in 2025 totaled $568.74 million, up 11.7% from 2024. Cambodian exports to France reached $447.52 million, while imports stood at $121.21 million. France is Cambodia’s 16th largest trading partner.
Economist Hong Vanak of the Royal Academy of Cambodia emphasized the long-standing relations between the two countries, noting that French investment could significantly boost Cambodia’s economic growth, particularly if manufacturing for European markets expands. Since 1994, the CDC has approved 44 French investment projects, totaling approximately $380 million.

If french gonna boost Cambodia I hope Cambodia bad people get a rough rule for people who doesn't do good things and make them pay back what their did
