Cambodia’s National Mekong Committee (CNMC) is collaborating with experts to evaluate the Mekong River Commission’s (MRC) request for additional documentation on the Funan Techo Canal project. CNMC formally notified the MRC Secretariat in August 2023, submitting required documents under MRC procedures. Following a recent request for more details, Cambodia is assessing its response.
The canal, launched in August 2024 with broad public support, is set for completion by 2028. The 180-km waterway will link Prek Takeo on the Mekong River to Kep province, traversing Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, and Kep. Featuring a 100m upstream width, 80m downstream, and 5.4m depth, it will enable two-way navigation and benefit approximately 1.6 million residents along its route.
