Cambodia is committed to the diplomatic path to maintain its sovereignty and protect its citizens from Thai aggression.

The Acting Spokesperson stated that: Cambodia says it is continuing strong diplomatic efforts to protect its land, sovereignty, citizens’ rights, and cultural heritage following violations by the Thai military. After a ceasefire took effect on December 27, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has worked through diplomatic channels, international law, and ASEAN principles to resolve the dispute peacefully and protect civilians.

The Cambodian government has called on Thailand to stop military activities, including destroying homes, blocking citizens from returning, and strengthening its presence in occupied Cambodian villages. Cambodia is urging Thailand to cooperate through the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to properly demarcate the border based on agreed legal frameworks.

Cambodia has also asked for international support, reaching out to the United Nations, ASEAN, UNESCO, the Red Cross, and human rights bodies to help ensure displaced citizens can return home safely. According to Cambodian authorities, Thai forces occupied 14 positions across four provinces—Pursat, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, and Preah Vihear—causing widespread displacement. As of January 13, 2026, more than 15,500 Cambodians are still unable to return to their homes.
