Traditional ox-carts, once an essential mode of transportation for Cambodian farmers to carry rice, straw, and agricultural produce, have almost been completely replaced by modern vehicles. However, according to ox-cart craftspeople, small-scale ox-carts—locally known as "Roteh Salei"—have gained immense popularity as decorative display items for resorts, restaurants, and homes. Despite this growing interest in decorative usage, observers note that very few local carpenters in rural villages still possess the specialized skill to construct these traditional ox-carts, making the preservation of this craft a rising concern.
