Breaking News: Thai Troops Launch Second Attack on Cambodian Forces at Preah Vihear Border, Defence Ministry Says

The Ministry of National Defence has reported that Thai military forces launched a second round of attacks on Cambodian troops along the Preah Vihear border on Sunday, escalating tensions between the two neighbours.

In a statement issued late Sunday night, Ministry Spokeswoman Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said Thai troops fired on Cambodian positions in the Prorlean Thmar area of Choam Khsant district from approximately 2:15pm to 2:32pm. Cambodia, she said, did not return fire during the incident.

“The Thai side also falsely accused Cambodia without any basis, despite the fact that Cambodian forces did not retaliate at all,” the ministry said, rejecting what it described as attempts by Thailand to mislead public opinion and justify heightened military pressure.

According to the statement, Thai troops launched a second assault at around 8:02pm, firing several rounds of small arms in front of Cambodian positions in the O’ Phka Sneh area. A further round of shooting followed at 8:30pm, again targeting Cambodian forces in Prorlean Thmar, this time using both small arms and mortars.

The firing reportedly stopped at around 8:50pm.

Lt Gen Socheata said Cambodia maintained full restraint throughout both attacks, in line with existing agreements and its commitment to resolving disputes peacefully.

“Standing on the spirit of respecting all previous agreements and resolving conflicts peacefully according to international law, Cambodia did not retaliate during the two assaults and continues to monitor the situation vigilantly,” she said.

The ministry confirmed that it has notified the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) for the second time and intends to request an investigation to ensure “transparency, justice and impartiality”.

Cambodia reiterated its adherence to the ceasefire arrangements and joint declarations with Thailand, stressing that it remains committed to peaceful dispute resolution based on international law and existing treaties.

“Cambodia firmly adheres to resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law, the existing treaties, conventions, and agreements, so as to seek solution that is just, fair, long-lasting, and in compliance with international law, for war cannot be ended through war itself,” the statement said.

ក្រសួងបាននិយាយថា "ភាគីថៃក៏បានចោទប្រកាន់កម្ពុជាដោយក្លែងក្លាយដោយគ្មានមូលដ្ឋានណាមួយ ទោះបីជាការពិតដែលថាកងកម្លាំងកម្ពុជាមិនបានសងសឹកទាល់តែសោះក៏ដោយ" ដោយបដិសេធនូវអ្វីដែលខ្លួនពិពណ៌នាថាជាការប៉ុនប៉ងរបស់ប្រទេសថៃដើម្បីបំភាន់មតិសាធារណៈ និងបង្ហាញពីភាពត្រឹមត្រូវនៃសម្ពាធយោធាដែលកើនឡើង។

យោងតាមសេចក្តីថ្លែងការណ៍ កងទ័ពថៃបានបើកការវាយលុកជាលើកទីពីរនៅម៉ោងប្រហែល ៨ និង០២នាទីយប់ ដោយបានបាញ់ជាច្រើនគ្រាប់នៅពីមុខទីតាំងរបស់កម្ពុជា នៅតំបន់អូរផ្គាំ។ ការបាញ់ប្រហារមួយទៀតបានកើតឡើងនៅម៉ោង ៨ និង ៣០ នាទីយប់ ដោយបានកំណត់គោលដៅម្តងទៀតទៅលើកងកម្លាំងកម្ពុជានៅប្រាសាទថ្ម ដោយលើកនេះដោយប្រើអាវុធធុនតូច និងកាំភ្លើងត្បាល់។

សេចក្តីរាយការណ៍​បន្ត​ថា ការ​បាញ់​នេះ​បាន​បញ្ឈប់​នៅ​វេលា​ម៉ោង​៨​និង​៥០​នាទី​យប់ ។

ឧត្តមសេនីយឯក សុជាតា មានប្រសាសន៍ថា កម្ពុជារក្សាការអត់ធ្មត់ពេញលេញក្នុងការវាយប្រហារទាំងពីរនេះ ស្របតាមកិច្ចព្រមព្រៀងដែលមានស្រាប់ និងការប្តេជ្ញាចិត្តរបស់ខ្លួនក្នុងការដោះស្រាយជម្លោះដោយសន្តិវិធី។

លោកស្រីបានមានប្រសាសន៍ថា “ដោយឈរលើស្មារតីគោរពរាល់កិច្ចព្រមព្រៀងពីមុន និងការដោះស្រាយជម្លោះដោយសន្តិវិធីតាមច្បាប់អន្តរជាតិ កម្ពុជាមិនបានសងសឹកក្នុងអំឡុងពេលនៃការវាយប្រហារទាំងពីរនេះទេ ហើយបន្តតាមដានស្ថានការណ៍យ៉ាងប្រុងប្រយ័ត្ន”។

ក្រសួង​បាន​បញ្ជាក់​ថា ខ្លួន​បាន​ជូន​ដំណឹង​ដល់​ក្រុម​អ្នក​សង្កេតការណ៍​អាស៊ាន (AOT) ជា​លើក​ទី​ពីរ ហើយ​មាន​បំណង​ស្នើ​ឲ្យ​មាន​ការ​ស៊ើប​អង្កេត​ដើម្បី​ធានា “តម្លាភាព យុត្តិធម៌ និង​មិន​លម្អៀង”។

កម្ពុជាបានរំលឹកឡើងវិញនូវការប្រកាន់ខ្ជាប់របស់ខ្លួនចំពោះការរៀបចំបទឈប់បាញ់ និងសេចក្តីថ្លែងការណ៍រួមជាមួយប្រទេសថៃ ដោយសង្កត់ធ្ងន់ថា ខ្លួននៅតែប្តេជ្ញាចិត្តក្នុងការដោះស្រាយជម្លោះដោយសន្តិវិធីដោយផ្អែកលើច្បាប់អន្តរជាតិ និងសន្ធិសញ្ញាដែលមានស្រាប់។

សេចក្តីថ្លែងការណ៍បាននិយាយថា “កម្ពុជាប្រកាន់ខ្ជាប់យ៉ាងម៉ឺងម៉ាត់ក្នុងការដោះស្រាយវិវាទតាមរយៈមធ្យោបាយសន្តិវិធី ស្របតាមច្បាប់អន្តរជាតិ សន្ធិសញ្ញា អនុសញ្ញា និងកិច្ចព្រមព្រៀងដែលមានស្រាប់ ដើម្បីស្វែងរកដំណោះស្រាយដែលត្រឹមត្រូវ យុត្តិធម៌ យូរអង្វែង និងស្របតាមច្បាប់អន្តរជាតិ ត្បិតសង្គ្រាមមិនអាចបញ្ចប់ដោយសង្រ្គាមដោយខ្លួនឯងបានឡើយ”។
